Democrat Elizabeth Frizell Will Not Ask For Recount In Narrow Dallas County DA Race

Elizabeth Frizell, a Democrat, stepped down as Dallas district court judge to run for the DA's office against fellow former judge John Creuzot (right).

The losing candidate in the Democratic primary for Dallas County district attorney says she will not request a recount.

Elizabeth Frizell said earlier this month that she would seek a recount in the March 6 race against opponent John Creuzot. She lost by 612 votes in the primary, according to an unofficial tally.

Dallas County elections officials have finished counting ballots and the results show an even smaller margin of 589 more votes for Creuzot. Frizell earned 56,056 votes; Creuzot won with 56,645.

“Although I was less than 1% away from my opponent’s vote total, after careful consideration of many factors, I have decided not to seek a recount of the votes,” Frizell said in a statement Monday.

Frizell says she will turn her focus to making sure the “electoral process is fair and just for all voters.”

“Countless people have reached out to my office concerning their inability to vote in the DA race due to ballot error and other violations," Frizell says. "Moreover, evidence of mail-in voter fraud and other forms of malfeasance currently under investigation leads me to believe that misconduct impacted this outcome.

“While no one wishes to move on from this process more than me and my family, I have a responsibility to the voters to ensure the process that I campaigned for them to participate in, many for the first time ever, was fair and impartial.”

Creuzot will face Republican Faith Johnson in November. Johnson was appointed by Gov. Greg Abbott in December 2016.
