The proposed Trinity Forest Golf Course in southeast Dallas cleared two major hurdles in as many days this week.

Yesterday, the Salesmanship Club announced that the Byron Nelson championship would be moving from Irving to the new, course in 2019.

And this morning, the Dallas City Council approved agreements with AT&T and a non-profit created to develop and manage the course at the edge of the Great Trinity Forest.

Council member Sandy Greyson asked about the $20 million dollars the city is requiring the developers to put up.

"What about the $20 million dollars?" Greyson asked. "I thought you said they’re really close to it or they’ve already got it?

"I didn’t say that because I don’t know," replied City Manager Mary  Suhm. "All I said is we’re not doing anything until they get it.”

Suhm says there’s an August deadline to come up with that $20 million for design and construction.

Other council members expressed confidence the money would be raised on time and an old landfill will be transformed into a championship golf course.

Council member Dwaine Caraway says the private, membership golf club will yield benefits to the surrounding neighborhoods around Loop 12 and I-45.

“It’s coming to an area to where at the end of the day we will see stores, retail, gas stations, hotels, jobs and other amenities that are going to come from this opportunity,” Caraway said.
