AT&T Works To Restore Internet Service After Electrical Fire In Richardson

Updated, 9:59 p.m.

Internet service was restored to some AT&T customers by late evening Monday after an electrical fire at the company's facility in Richardson caused widespread outages most of the day.

The Dallas-based company blamed the fire on a "direct lightning strike." But the Richardson Fire Department said it has not determined a cause.

Richardson firefighters responded to the fire at the facility, located in the 1600 block of Firman Drive, just before 10 a.m. Monday, the city of Richardson confirmed.

The fire was contained to an electrical room and started at a power switch and burned primary and backup systems, according to the city.

Firefighters cleared the scene at 12:15 p.m. No injuries were reported.

Crews have been working since mid-day Monday to restore the service across the Metroplex. It's unclear when internet will be fully restored to all customers affected.

The site DownDetector.com shows concentrated outages in Dallas, Fort Worth and parts of Collin County.

Customers will need to contact the company for further information.
